Recently released AXR 5000 and 5800 Large AC NEMA motors from ABB, Cary, NC, are said to deliver an average of 15% more power than conventional designs. The new line also meets API 541 and 547 standards for motors operating in the oil and gas industry.

According to ABB, the units offer more horsepower per pound than conventional TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled) motors, but with a smaller frame size in some power ratings. A new cooling configuration leads to more thermally equalized motors and eliminates hot spots that have been seen in TEFC designs.
